HUTT VALLEY HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

MIDSUMMER SHOW.

The two days show of the Hutt Valley Horticultural Society held on Wednesday and Thursday, st4i and. 6th inst in the King George Theatre, was pronounced by those fully qualified to jßidge to be tie best show ever held in that hall. The main exhibits weTe' gladioli and Dahlias. The decorative" classes, witik the exception of ihe decorated tables, were of outstanding merit, this was rmaterially assisted by the artistic arrangement of . the stand upon which they were arranged. . There, were many fine stands put up for ex- -\ Mbit ion only,. the principal being a gorgeous massed displayed of begonias grown by Mr Gr, A. Chapnmn, .which had the distinction of 'being awarded the,prize for the most meritbrijus exhibit in the show. The second in point i of iuerit was that staged- by Messrs Hutt and Edwards for t&e Lowot JB!ut,t Borough Council Reserves COnimittee.

Hiis occupied a. prominent position, icross tKe hall and in front of the itage. Patrick's coleetion of hydrangeas with their novel colours. were greatly admired. Mr.3rie Riddiford (Oardener Mr. F. Gr. ?larke), staged a very large collection >£ annuals and border plants, showing videnee of careful cultivation. Mr. J. . Alexander had an interesting exhibit If seedling gladiolus .raised by nimself. I Among the trade exhibits there were tany fine stands, including a beautiful lisplay of begonias and glaxiaias by Kr W. H. BarbeT. Mr. R. -N. Wall had I beautiful display of gladioii and dahlias. Mr A. McMillan's exhibit of defcrative work formed a novel and be'auful display. Mr.- T. C. Bilby showed adioli. Messrs Pilcher and Son ■ put ■ j a very fine stand of pot plants and | >ms which attracted a great 3eal of ;tention. The visiting tradesmen were r. P. Bivrns of Aiamoho w&o staged adioli, and Messrs A. J. Shailer and m, of Palmerston North, who.showed' -hlias. ■ ■ - Inf introducing Mr. W. N^ash, M.P., b.o officially opened the s>how, Mr. S. Patrick (president), congratulated r G-. A. Chapman upon his success winning the much coveted Ooooper emorial Medal and said that Mr. Biapman was at all times willing to Xt up a fine exhibit for the. benefit I tie Society.
