HURDLES RECORD EQUALLED

Frank Sharpley, of Hastings, double New Zealand hurdles champion, competed with outstanding success during the Easter holiday period at Te Kuiti and Tauranga, equalling his own national record for the 120 yards hurles twice and his national record for the 220 yards low hurdles once in three starts. Sharpley proved a big attraction at both meetings, where there were crowded attendances.

At Te Kuiti on Saturday he won the 120 yards hurdles in 14 4-ssec., equalling his own New Zealand record. He repeated the performance at Tauranga on Monday, and on the same day won the 220 yards hurdles in 24 2-ssec., also equalling his record. The mile race at the Te Kuiti gathering resulted in the sensational defeat of the New Zealand mile champion, W. A.. Pullar, by McCormick, of Auckland, who wmn the New Zealand mile junior title last month. McCormick started 50 yards in front of Pullar and Dare, of Auckland, another outstanding miler, and was passed by both men some distance from home. Pullar and Dare were fighting out the finish when McCormick came from behind and left both standing in a whirlwind finish to record the fine time of 4min, ISsec.
