POSITION REVERSED UNDER NEW ZEALAND RULES (By Telegraph-Press Assn.-Copyright) Received Tuesday, 9.50 p.m. MELBOURNE, Aug. 16'. Playing under Australian rules Victoria defeated Mew Zealand in the ir.ter-State basketball tourney by 4S to 16. New Zealand were continuously penalised for footwork. The Victorian method of playing outside the court made it impossible to intercept thei'quick passing. The New Zealanders l\v contrast were slower in their movements than the Victorians. M. Matangi was outstanding both in defence and forward, while E. Sinclair made good interceptions but was penalised for footwork. The grass hampered the New Zealanders. Other games resulted: — Tasmania defeated Queensland 26 17. ' South Australia defeated New South Wales 45—10. Under their own rules New Zealand defeated Victoria 19—5. The New Zealanders were happier at their own game and gave a good exhibition, considering the grass courts. Appearances are favourable for uniform rules after to-day's exhibition. The New Zealand team was M. Matangi, .f. .Mitchell, E. Sinclair, M. Martin, M. Howe, E. Neame, E. Howard, J. Willson, ■> Tyrrell.
