MEASLES EPIDEMIC.
FATAL CASE IN SOUTH ISLAND. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) 'CIIIUSTCIIURCH, Last Niglit. The measles epidejnie lias been responsible for one death in the Canterbury and Westland health district. The death is believed to have been due to complications arising from the failure of the victim to remain in bed until the illness had run its course, and the district medical officer of health, Dr. T. Fletcher Telford, issued a warning to the public to take every care in the treatment of sufferers.
So far the epidemic had not been very severe in Canterbury, Dr. Teltord said. Westport had been affected most, ai.-d one school in that town had "been closed. There were few cases in 'the si-rrounding district*, and the Inang 1 - hua county was reported to be free cf the disease. The outbreak at Te muka was waning, but theie, had been an increase in the number of cases at Geraldine.
