STIFF CHINESE DEFENCE.
CRACK TROOPS AT KIUKIANG. (By Telegraph-Press Assn.-Copyright) (Received This D'aq, 9 a.m.) The arrival of crack Cantonese troops foreshadows a stiff Chinese defence of Kiukiang, from which the Japanese are only 10 miles distant. The Chinese batteries on Lion hill are fighting a spirited duel with the Japanese warships on the river. Two hundred persons were killed and wounded in an air raid by 20 planes on Wuchang. A wing of the hospital was demolished and many patients and members of. the staff were crushed in debris.
