THE CENTENNIAL EXHIBITION.
DUTCH EAST INDIES -TO PAETICIPATE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.') WELLINGTON, Last Night. Hon. D. G. Sullivan, Minister of Industries and Commerce and honorary president of the New Zealand Centerfnial Exhibition, announced to-day that he had received an intimation from the Department of Overseas Trade that there will be no objection to the participation of the Dutch East Indies in the Centennial Exhibition, although the Centennial Exhibition has not been officially recognised as an international exhibition, which precludes the issue of invitations to foreign governments. The Minister said representations had been made by the Consul for the Dutch East Indies for space at the exhibition and this was referred to the Department of Overseas Trade for consideration. Advice now received is that Dutch colonies, not being sovereign States, would not bring their participation within the purview of the international convention. "It is quite evident," said the Minister, "that the exhibition is attracting world-wide interest and consideration is now being given to whether States in other foreign countries can be granted exhibition space under the same conditions as those applying to the Dutch East Indies."
