JERSEY BREEDERS MEET.

HOROWHENUA CLUEt SUCCESSFUL YEAR. There was an excellent attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Uorowhcmia Jersey Cattle Brecdr-j’ Club, held in Levin yesterday afternoon. The President, Mr. 11. J. Lancaster, occupied the chair. > Annual Review. Deferring to the club’s activities during the year just closed, the Proddent said the balance-sheet showed a decrease in the credit balance of approximately £2 7s, but this was accounted for largely because the club had organised turn field days instead of the usual one. The year had been quite a successful one, continued the President, the club organising two held days which proved to be among the best it had ever held. One took place on Mr. JL E. j Satisfactory Finances. j The balance-sheet, duly audited, was |presented by the secretary (Mr. W. A. .Smith). It showed that the year coni.menced with a credit balance of £0 5s bd and to this was added subscriptions £d 10s, subsidies from New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association on j subscriptions, prize money and demonstrations £ls 11s. Expenditure was for catering at field days £4 13s, Horo^ :\, henna A. and P. who had acted as auditor for a. considerable time. The meeting asked that a letter be. sent to Mr. Smaill, thanking him for his services in this connection.

Tribute was paid to the work done by Mr. .Smith as secretary and recognition was made by granting him an honorarium of £3 3s. The President and Mr. J. Ct. Horn were appointed to represent the club at the combined clubs meeting, to be held in Palmerston North towards the end of the month for the purpose of arranging the spring bull and heifer sale.

On the motion of Mr. I. D. Parsons, seconded by Air. J. G. Horn, it was decided to make a grant of £1 Is to the Horowhenua Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Club.

After a short discussion Mr. R. W. B. Evans moved that the club subsidise the prize money in the Jersey section at the next show held by the Horowhenua A. and P. Association. It was seconded by Mr. E. L. Horn and carried.

On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr. C. O’Sullivan, the club decided to invite the New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association to hold its next annual meeting in Levin. The President voiced the opinion that only one held day should be held this year in the Autumn, and that the wlub should concentrate all its efforts on this fixture. This was favoured by the meeting and a motion was carried accordingly.

Air. 15. R. Robinson drew attention to the fact tha there was a move in Alaiiawatu to eliminate the Palmerston North Spring mid Winter shows and hold an eight day show in the Autumn. On his n otion, seconded by Air. J. 11. Rolston, the club decided to write and express its disapproval of the suggested change, pointing out that it would not be in the interests of the dairy cattle section to hold an autumn show. A T otes of thanks to the ladies for dispensing refreshments at field days and tc the press for publicity concluded the meeting.
