The New York Times gives prominence to an affidavit submitted to the Federal Court by George Dix, attorney for Hoffman, in which he makes a charge that Turrou, the ace Federal agent responsible for the spy ring investigations, permitted Griebl to escape aboard the Bremen because Turrou ’‘had monetary interest in allowing Griebl to depart,” and also that he permitted another person to escape in order to deprive Hoffman of a witness who would have testified in- her favour.
The judge has ordered the United States Attorney to show the cause to morrow why the American Consul-Gen-eral at Bremerhaven, Bremen, or Berlin should not lie empowered to examine Griebl and Sehluter on oath ami obtain the desired testimony.
