SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION.

ACTIVITY IN RELIGIOUS EDUCATION. The annual report of the Wellington Sunday School Union shows a year of considerable activity in the field of religious education. The Union is inter-denominational and draws its membership from the Baptist, Congregational, Church of Christ, Methodist and Presbyterian Churches, some 92 schools being affiliated. During the year a great loss was suffered by the death of the secretary, Mr. H, J. Thompson, who had filled the office for 44 years and had won the esteem and affection of every Sunday School teacher. The Union has been fortunate in securing the services of Mr. A. W. Reed, wellknown in Sunday School circles, to fill this office.

. Though one of the principal activities of the organisation, in the shape of the Scripture examination had to be cancelled owing to the infantile paralysis epidemic, a new and valuable contribution to Sunday School work was made by the Union in the provision of correspondence lessons for use during the enforced vacation. A very fine feature of the report is the information relating to the fostering of extension school work in the backblocks, carried on by Mr. W. E. Howe.

Levin is to be favoured with the annual Easter Convention of the Union. A programme in which devotional, instructional and recreational features are effectively blended has been prepared. Speakers included the Rev. J. F. Mayo, M. A. Bulls (Anglican), the Rev. J. Dennis, Levin (Methodist), the Rev. I. Fraser, M.A., Th.D., Levin (Presbyterian) and leading Sunday School workers. Demonstrations of various aspects of Sunday School work will be given including a session of Scripture dramatisation. As regards accommodation camp conditions will obtain. For the meetings the use of St. Andrews Presbyterian School hall and the new Century Hall has been granted. The Convention will open with a Communion service in the Methodist Church on Good Friday morning. An invitation to all the meetings is being extended to all interested members of the community. Messrs W. E. Howe and B. R. Burdan are joint secretaries for the Convention.
