HOROWHENUA CRICKET. LEVIN WIN HALL SHIELD POSITION UNASSAILABLE Levin’s- championship aspirations were realised on Saturday afternoon when they'defeated Shannon and added sufficient points to their aggregate to ,win the Hall Shield competition, with One series of games still to be played. Throughout the season the members of the club have played consistently good cricket, and their success will be popular. Out of seventeen games played, eleven were won, five drawn and one lost. Weraroa’s position as runners-up .will also remain unaffected by the remaining series' of matches. The match on Saturday was played at Weraroa, Shannon having first use iof the wicket. The visitors made a poor stand and -were dismissed for DU runs, the only- batsman to reach double figures being Mercer with 20, not out. Hudson and Pletcher registered good success with the i ball, accounting for most of the Shannon wickets at low cost. In their knock Levin placed 190 runs on the board after an innings characterised by aggressive batting. The main contributors to this tally were Brown (54), Meddings (37), Bell (26), Baumber (23) and Walker (22), The most forceful Shannon bowler was Picard who captured four wickets for 28 runs. ON THE GREEN. LEVIN MEET OTAEI RAILWAY. The first match to be played between, the Levin Bowling Club and the re-cently-formed Otaki Railway Club took place on the local green on Saturday afternoon. The weather was good, with the exception of a few drops of rain which did not interfere with the proceedings to any: great extent. The (Visitors' were represented by six rinks and they carried off the honours, securing four games to Levin’s two. After* Jaoon tea was served by Levin ladies and was greatly enjoyed. The President of the local'club (Mr. C. Sherwood) expressed pleasure at being able to entertain the Otaki Railway (Club and wished them, every success. On behalf of the visitors, Mr. A. D, (Webster expressed appreciation of the hospitality extended to his members. Following are the results of games, Otaki Railway being mentioned first in each instance :

Levin’s Sink consisted of “Webber, de Malmanche, Hogg and Vercoe (s), while Johnsonville was represented by Bruce, Washington, Offord and Jacob (s). As ■-three rinks from the Railway Club were at Poxton strong rinks could not be provided and both games were won f'by the visitors. All spent a very enjoy; ■able afternoon.
