TOO MUCH TEMPTATION.

PARENTS OF BOY SHOPLIFTERS COMPLAIN. (By Telegraph—Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, March lu. Two parents, whose boys admitted shoplifting in the city, complained in the Children’s Court this morning that shopkeepers placed temptation in the boys’ way. Twenty-nine charges of theft from shops were faced by seven boys, three of them having five charges against them.

The thefts were alleged to have been committed over a period of nine months. • “Magistrates should recommend legislation ordering grills to be put over goods,” said one parent. “It is a shame and absolutely unfair to tempt children, especially when they see others getting away with it. It would not be allowed for ten minutes in the Old Country.” Another parent entered a similar protest.

The mother of one boy said her boy seemed to have a mania for fountain pens. The boy stole five to find one with which he could write best and returned the other four. She blamed lack of discipline at school, a view supported by another parent. All the boys were placed under the supervision of the Child Welfare Officer for twelve months.
