LEVIN WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

ELEVENTH .BIRTHDAY PARTY.

The Levin Women’s Institute celebrated its eleventh birthday last Friday by holding a party in the Druids' Hall. There was a large • gathering of members, representatives of the different women’s organisations in Levin, and members of neighbouring institutes. Apologies for absence were received' from Mr. Hunter, M. p., ana Mrs. Hunter, Mrs. Hume (President of the South Wellington Federation of Women’s Institutes), Mrs. Kelso (Dominion Organiser) and Mrs. Kennerley (President Levin W.C.T.U.). Mrs. Treen (the retiring President) extended a hearty welcome to the Mayor and Mayoress (Mr. and Mrs. P, W. Goldsmith), at the same time presenting the latter with a dainty posy. Mrs. Treen also took the opportunity of introducing the newly-elected President, Airs, Thorpe. The first part of the entertainment consisted of a short programme, to which the following contributed items: Airs. Hinde (elocutionary), Mrs. F. Allen (songs), Miss Margaret Edwards (tap dance), Aliss Beretti (Elocutionary), and Mr. J. D. Brown (songs). Airs. Mew capably officiated as accompanist. Ail the items were encored and the performers were presented with posies by the President. Birthday greetings, in each case accompanied by gifts of lovely posies, were extended to the President of the Levin Women’s Institute by Mrs. Blenkhorn (President of W.D.F.U.), Airs. Hinde (President of Levin League of Alothers), Airs. Lancaster (President of Koputaroa Women’s Institute), Airs. Alartyu (President of, Alauakau W.L), and Airs. Stewart (President of Ihakara W.L). The birthday cake, which had been made by Airs. Treen and tastefully iced and decorated by

Mrs, W. Plaster (a member of the Levin W. 1.), was then cut by Mrs. Ilinde, after the candles thereon—which had been lighted by the Presidents of Koputaroa, Kimberley, Manakau and lliakara Women’s Institutes—had been extinguished by Mrs. Blenkhorn and Miss Cotter.

Presentations of bouquets from their Institute were made to the newlyelected President (Mrs. Thorpe), the retiring President (Mrs. Treen), the retiring secretary (Mrs. 11. S. Powell), and the retiring treasurer (Mrs. W. Ransom).

Dancing to spirited music, kindly supplied by Mrs. Inglis and Mr. Baylis, was indulged in until the early hours of the morning, when the singing of “Anld Lang Syne” and the National Anthem concluded a most successful and enjoyable party.
