GREYMOUTH TOURNAMENT ENDS

The Dominion boxing tournament, which concluded on Saturday night before a large audience, unearthed a set of new champions. Two title-holders, B. Maddern (Hawera, flyweight) and D. Moswell (Hutt) were eliminated in the preliminary bouts, whilst B. McKay (bantam), the only other title-holder of last year at the tournament, fought in the featherweight class, having to default last night to Aioran, of Auckland, in the final, owing to a nasty cut over tire eye. The new title-holders are:— Lightweight: j. Collins (Manawatu), winner also of the Parisian Cup. Welterweight: D. Heeney (Gisborne), winner of. the Ted Morgan Cup. Flyweight: H. Sheridan (Auckland), who was awarded the Jamieson Belt for the most scientific boxer. Feather-weight: K. Aloran (Auckland). , Aliddleweight: Sutherland (Southland). Light-heavyweight: T. Lister (Ashburton). Bantam: J. Parker (Wellington). Heavyweight: R. Withell (Ashburton). The titles, which last y T ear all went to the North Island, were this year divided, five going to the North and three to the South Island. Results:— Lightweight Semi-finals. —J. Collins (Alanawatu), 9.7, beat P. Kelly (Auckland), 9.3 i, on 'points. It was a good bout, the winner being cleverer on attack. R. Davey (Gisborne), 9.7, defeated N. Fisher (Christchurch), 9.7, on a foul in the second round. Fisher looked a certain winner, being unlucky in felling his opponent just after the gong went. Final.—J. Collins (Alanawatu) knocked out R. Davey (Gisborne) in the first round after Davey had taken the count to eight. Welterweight Semi-finals.—L. lluzziff (Taranaki), 30.5, beat W. Purdie (Hamilton), 9.13, on points, the former staging a recovery [after being floored lor the count of five J early in the bout. D. Heeney (Gisborne), 10.li, beat R. Baker (Otago), 10.31, on points, the winner being a more rugged fighter. Final. —D. Heeney (Gisborne) defeated L. Huzziff (Taranaki) on points, the -loser again showing wonderful stamina, After being floored three times for counts of eight, six and two, he held his own in the final round. Flyweight Final. —H. Sheridan (Auckland), 7.13, defeated H. Foote (Wellington), 8.0, on, points. It was a good contest, the winner being more versatile and finishing strongly. Featherweight Final.—B. AlcKay (Hamilton) defaulted to K. Moran (Auckland). Middleweight Final. —A. Sutherland (Southland), 11.1, beat F. Alclvor (Wellington) 11.2§, on points after a fairly even bouth, Sutherland hitting the cleaner and harder. Light Heavyweight Final. —T. Lister (Ashburton), 12.1, defeated G. Alarsh (Grcyrnouth), 3 2.0 J, on points. The winner’s superiority was marked. Bantam Final.—J. Parker (Wellington), 8.3, defeated AI. Parr (Otago), 8.3, on points, being the stronger fighter. I Heavyweight | Final. —R. Withell (Ashburton), 12.10, defeated W. Lister (Rakaia), .12.2, [on points. It was a fairly even bout, I Withell showing more aggression.
