Miss W. Reed, of Palmerston North, who has been attached to the Dargaville District High School staff, has been appointed domestic seienc® instructress at the Levin ‘ District High School, and will take, up her duties after the holidays.

Reference to the life membership medal which it had been his privilege to present to Mr. J. W. Procter on behalf of the union on the occasion of his golden wedding last week was referred to by the President of the Horowhenua Rugby Union at the meeting of the management committee last evening, The medal had been inscribed. “From members- of the Horowhenua Rugby Union, 1937,” said Mr. Gillespie and had come from them personally. On this account it would no doubt be highly prized by the recipient.

The death has occurred at ’ Christchurch of Mr. Henry Buttle, aged 89 years. Mr. Buttle was the last surviving son of the Rev. George Buttle, one of the pioneer missionaries of the Methodist Church of New Zealand. Mr. Buttle was born in 1848 at the Waipa Wesleyan Mission iStation, where his father was in charge for many years. Subsequently his father retired from active missionary work and took his family to England, where Mr. Henry Buttle received his education. The family returned to New Zealand in ,1862.

At yesterday’s conference of county clerks held in Wellington the following officers were elected for the ensuing year;—President, Mr. P. H. Hudson (Horowhenua), vice-presidents, Mr. George Kelly (Ashburton) and Mr. Edgar Ashcroft (Manakau), secretarytreasurer, Mr J. W. Harding (Hawera); auditor, Mr. George Darby shire . (Wanganui). The following members of the executive were elected by the various district branches;—Mr. E. A. Mahoney (Hauraki Plains), Or. C. J. L. Campbell (Stratford), Mr. J. Graham (Woodville), Mr. H. H. Richardson (Rangitikei), Mr. L. J. Collins (Waimate), Mr. H. C. Gimblett (Southland), and Mr. D J. Evans (Westland).

The death took place in Wellington on. Sunday morning of Mrs. Nellie Barry, wife of Mr, P. J. Barry, Foxton, and at one time a resident of Levin. Mrs. Barry was born in Masterton, where her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Humphrey ’ O ’Leary, were prominent residents for, over half a century. The late Mrs. Barry was of an engaging personality, and many friends in Masterton, Marton and Foxton will regret her death. She is survived by her husband and live children. The funeral took place at Foxton yesterday after Requiem Mass, celebrated by a brother. Rev. Father Mark O’Leary, Marist missioner, Island Bay. Other brothers are Mr. H. F. O’Leary, K.C. (Wellington), Mr. J. O’Leary (Timaru), and Mr. J. O’Leary (Masterton). Sisters are Mrs. J Brophy (Palmerston North),- Mrs. A. Aseott (Wanganui), Mrs. J. McKenna (Bunythorpe).
