WOMEN'S INSTITUTE.
There was only a fair attendance at. the April meeting of the Shannon Women's Institute, held on Wednesday afternoon, when Mrs. C. Easton was in the chair. A reply was received from the Foxton Women's Institute, accepting Shannon's invitation to them to" control the May meeting. This exchange of programmes between Foxton and Shannon has proved most successful over a number of years, and members will look forward to the May meeting. It was decided to make an effort to put an entry in the "assorted crafts" section of the Palmerston North Winter Show, and a sub-committee consisting of Mesdames Taylor, Bovis, Aim. Allen and F. Jamieson, Jnr., was set up to arrange details. A small sub-com-f mittee, with Mrs. L. Satherley asleader, is to conduct the usual winter card afternoons. Correspondence in reference to a W.E.A. course and various other matters were held over till a later meeting. A vote of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Mrs. J. McLean, Mrs. Easton making special comment on the years of faithful service given to the Institute by Mrs. McLean and by her daughter, Mrs B. Edgington. Sympathy was expressed to Mrs. Clark in the loss of a relative. Mr. Hallam gave a.talk on his recent trip to England, one a cargo boat, via Cape Horn.
