GALLICHAN’S CHANCES.
FINANCE NOT THE BARRIER. FOURTEEN MEN WAS COUNCIL’S DECISION. (PALMERSTON N.,. This Day. It is not a matter of money, the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce has been informed in connection with its decision to raise the necessary finance to have Norman Gallichan, one of Manawatu’s Plunket Shield representatives, included in the New Zealand team to tour England.
Yesterday Mr. A. J. Graham, president of the Chamber, got in touch by telephone with Mr. Donnelly, chairman of the management committee of the New Zealand Cricket Council, and was informed definitely that lack of finance had been no barrier to the inclusion of a fifteenth man in the team. The position was that the Cricket Council had decided to send only fourteen men and those players had been selected. However, should it eventually be decided to strengthen the team by sending an extra man, the selectors would be asked to make a further choice. There the matter rested in the meantime.
