PREMIER STEVENS PLEDGES AUSTRALIA TO PEACE.
SOLVING WORLD PROBLEMS.

TORONTO, Sept. 2. “Australia desires to Junction for peace, hut if another call similar to that in 1914 came, her part in Empire defence would he displayed with the same strength,” Mr B. S. B. Stevens (Premier of New South Wales) told a cheering crowd at a gathering under the auspices of the directors of the Canadian National Exhibition. “The world will not he able to solve its problems hy bilateral trade agreements,” said Mr Stevens, “and the old way, in which we exchanged goods and paid for them on exchange through London or New York, will be found the best, but we have to travel a long way before we get to it.” Mr Stevens added that he had not intended to return via North America, but was asked to do so by United States firms in order to talk over political conditions.
