New properties acquired for the nation by the National Trust during the past year, according to the annual report, numbered 30, while the acreage owned or protected by the Trust, including some of the most beautiful rural areas in Britain, actually has increased by 50 per cent, in the past two years. These Trust properties, dotted all over the country, are most numerous within easy roach of large centres of population, but the Trust, with an eye to the future, also has acquired during recent years a number of big, rather remote estates, which with improved transport facilities will bring within the reach of popular enjoyment.
