POTATOES FOR SOUTH AMERICA.
NEGOTIATIONS IN PROGRESS. (By Telegraph— Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. Several inquiries have been received in Christchurch for shipment of potatoes to Argentina and Uruguay. No sales have yet been made, but as the South American crop is short this year, merchants hope that negotiations now in progress will end in export orders being booked. Two thousand tons of New Zealand potatoes, nearly all from Canterbury, were shipped to the order of the Uruguayan Government in 1933. The price received varied then from £5 10s to £7 ton f.o.b. Merchants in Wellington and Timaru have also received inquiries. If orders are booked the export would have the effect of steadying the market.
