GOVERNOR LANDON REPUBLICAN NOMINEE.

EXCITEMENT AT CONFERENCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Received Friday, 10.15 p.m. CLEVELAND, June 11. After a few moments’ approval of their platform, Republican delegates from States from Alabama to Illinois deferred to Kansas, and Governor Laudon’s campaign manager. Air John Hamilton, rose and read a telegram from Governor Landon, which caused a mild sensation. It stated that ho disagreed with two planks in the platform. First, if necessary, he will approve a constitutional amendment protecting women and children in industry in respect of wages and hours. Second, tnat he interprets sound currency to mean currency in terms of gold and convertible into gold, but the latter would not be sought until it can be achieved without injury to domestic economy and foreign trade. Air Hamilton then put the name of Governor Landon for nomination and for the Presidency and the delegates began the expected demonstration, headed by Kansas banners. Virtually all State delegations, aided by every conceivable noise-making device, paraded the convention floor. It was in the best manner of American conventions — noisy and very artificial. Governor Landon’s daughter and father occupied a box in one corner of the hall. Two enterprising wireless men, walking seemingly over the heads of spectators, hauled a microphone towards Peggy Landon. She laughed, but aside from sending a "hello” to her father, listening in Topeka, she would say nothing.

No other State would offer a candidate, and there were only seconding speeches. Senator Vandenberg and other aspirants announced their withdrawal and the path was quite clear for Landon, who received the nomination over Senator Borah.
