COLD BLAST STRIKES AMERICA.

44 DEGREES BELOW ZERO (By Telegraph-Press Assn.—Copyright) Received Sunday, 9.50 p.m. NEW YORK, Feb. 8. After twenty-two days of almost continuous zero weather in the eastern part of the nation an intensification of the cold wave began yesterday and promised to exceed the weather records of half a century. Washington was the worst sufferer, 1(5 inches of snow having fallen in 10 hours with the storm continuing. A thousand men and 50 snow ploughs are making no headway against the drifts. A heavy snowfall in Virginia interfered with the railway traffic and in one case caused the derailment of a train from the Rocky Mountains.

Bemidji, Minnesota, reports the temperature at 44 below zero. New York City is also suffering.
