HAWKE’S BAY DRAW WITH M.C.C.

HEANEY SCORES 22 OFF ONE OVER

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) NAPIER, Last Night,

The M.C.C.-Hawkc’s Bay cricket match resulted in a draw. The visitors declared with 171 for eight wickets, leaving Hawke’s Bay 84 to make to avoid an innings defeat with an hour to play. Hawke’s Bay had scored 97 for the loss of six wickets at stumps. The most spectacular batting performance for the Englishmen was by Human (48 not out.) He continually delighted the crowd estimated at about 2ioo, by forceful tactics. Sims and Langridge also gained applause for excellent strokes all round the wicket. Lambert and Beuth both took three wickets and Johnson two. The last-named, a 16-year-old boy, is still in the junior grade. He bowled a good length slow delivery frequently demanding respect from the English batsmen.

T. Reaney was the hero of the Bay side. In the second innings, after a poor start by the local batsmen, he started forceful tactics, scoring 37 in record time. He scored five successive boundaries and a two off Human in one over.
