REPLY BY “NOT OUT.”

(To the Editor). Bir, —Permit me the use of a little of your valuable space to reply to the letters written by Mr. W. H. Walker and “Weraroa,’' and which appeared in your journal on Friday last. I have witnessed every game that Weraroa and Levin have played this season and in each ease have taken particular notice of the times. In the match before the recent one, Levin had 2 hours .10 minutes in which to make 252 runs and not J. hour 50 minutes as Mr. Walker stated. In support of this, I would point out that the tea adjournment was called at 4.20 p.m. with Weraroa batting. Play commenced again at 4.40 p.m. and Weraroa continued their innings until 4.40 p.m. when they declared. Allowing ten minutes for Levin to commence batting they then had the time 1 have stated to get the necessary runs. I still consider my criticism was justlied, as for seasons past these two clubs have played drawn games, which would not be the case if the teams wore there to play real cricket. Is there any explanation of the facts that numerous cricket followers do not bother to visit the ground when these two elevens are playing !

In reply to “ Woraroa’s ’ ’ letter, I have no doubt that the members of the Woraroa team appreciated Levin’s sporting gesture in continuing the match in rain, but 1 consider that had Levin declared earlier, Woraroa may have compiled the number of runs required for a win before the rain came on. With reference to his .suggestion of a limited batting time, 1 wish to say I am in favour of it, as it is time cricket was brightened and drawn games were finished with. In conclusion, Sir, I would like to say that 1 have the game of cricket very much at heart and in the Hone of improving anti encouraging it I air. writino - these notes each week. It tne criticisms I make will have the effect of brightening the game np throughout the district, then I will feel satisfied. In compiling the notes I endeavour to give credit where it is due, independent of a player’s club. If anyone else considers he is better able to do this may I ask why there has not been sutiicient interest for it to have been done in the past; Thanking you for the use of your columns. —Yours, etc., “NOT OUT.”
