APPLICATION BY EAST COAST AIRWAYS.

(Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) GISBORNE, Last Night.

An application has been made bv Last Coast Airways, Limited, the first company in New Zealand to conduct it commercial air service on a schedule over a stated route, for a license to extend its service to Palmerston North from (he present southern terminus at Napier. The East Coast service has been operating successfully since April hast, and, although it sustained a financial loss over the first period of six months, its business has since proved most remunerative. Recently the number of passengers offering has necessitated the frequent running of double trips between Gisborne and Napier. The proposal to extend the service to Palmerston North is in line with the original intentions of the company as stated to the Transport Co-ordina-tion Board when initial applications for licenses were heard.
