GUSTLOFF MURDER.

HITLER'S UNOFFICIAL AMBASSADOR.

REVELATIONS OF FOREIGN ACTIVITIES. (By Telegraph-Press Assn.--Copyright) Received Thursday, 9.25 p.m. LONDON, Feb. 6.

! The Manchester Guardian's Geneva correspondent says Gustloff's murder is unique inasmuch as it is the first time since the Hitler regime that a Nazi has been assassinated by anybody but Nazis. Gustloff as Hitler's unofficial ambassador had more power and influence in Switzerland than the official representative of Germany. The Swiss Socialist newspaper Travail declared that the Government must take some responsibility because of its refusal to exoel Gustloff.

The Daily Telegraph's Berlin correspondent says German Jews regard organised reprisals as unlikely because of the presence of many foreigners in Germany for the Winter Olympiad, though the possibility of individual vengeance is not ignored. The Times' Berlin correspondent says that the newspapers, while unanimously declaring that Herr Gustloff was the victim of Marxist-Jewish hatred of Nazi Germany, regard Switzerland as partly sharing the murderer's guilt. It is affirmed that, the Social Democratic Press has long carried on a lying campaign against Nazism, and recently against Gustloff. In spite of official Swiss testimony as to the legality of Gustloff's work and the fact that he has done nothing 1o endanger the security of Switzerland, the hope is expressed that Switzerland will now put her Press house in order.

Gustloff was one; a liank official, and later secretary of the Observatory, and then chief of the Meteorological Station at Davos. He joined the "Nazi Party in .1929, and became leader of the Swiss group of.the foreign organisations of the Nazi Party, -whose task it was to foster Nazi propaganda among Germans abroad. There is scarcely a German colony throughout the world which lias not a Nazi group supervised from Berlin, but it is strictly enjoined that political activities should not extend beyond the German community.
