SMITHFIELD STRIKE COLLAPSING.
TRANSPORT ORGANISATION TOO GOOD. ALL MEAT ARRIVING SINCE STRIKE SOLD. (By Telegraph-Press Assn.-Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, February 6.
The Smith-field strike appears to be ■collapsing .and the men are expected to resume work at th e week-end. They have been beaten by the swift organisation of transport and temporary ■meat depots at railway stations, docks and secret points in the suburbs. The strikers admit that they gambled •dockers and railway workers who refused as the Union leaders were op■posed to the strike. The whole of the 400 tons of meat arriving at Smithfield since the strike broke ou-t was sold yesterday under) police protection. The price of all supplies was slightly advanced at suburban markets.
The strikers admit that they gambled on winning in four days and lost because the butchers easily obtained alternative supplies.
