REPLIES TO "NOT OUT."

(To the Editor)

Sir, —I note I:lie remarks of "Not Out" in the ■cricket notes of yester(hiy's issue. He is cither misinformed as to the position re the Weraroa v. Levin match last. Saturday, or is guilty of partiality. He says that Levin played for the draw, a grossly unfair statement in view of the fact that the game commenced 25 minutes late, owing to the Weraroa Club not. having 1 the wicket prepared, they being the home team. I would like to draw "Not Out's" attention to the fact that in the previous match between our two teams, Levin were given one hour 50 minutes to attempt to score 252 runs, while last Saturday Weraroa were left with 1 hour 40 minutes to score .189 runs. They made a gallant effort to knock up the runs and I venture to suggest that they would have been successful but for steady rain falling throughout their innings, Avhich incidentally meant that the Levin team were fielding under most unpleasant conditions.

hi conclusion, I would inform "Not Out" that there is a friendly spiritas of course there should be —between, the two teams, and remarks such as his are not in the best interests of the game. Only the fact that the sportsmanship of the Levin Club is involved induces me to reply through the Pres-i. —Yours, etc., W. 11. WALKER. Captain, Levin Cricket Club. (To the Editor). '.Sir—According to the report of the Levin-Weraroa cricket match and also the notes by "Not Out" in last evening's "Chronicle" it would appear that Levin wer c playing for a draw. Whether this was so or not I should imagine Levin were justified in scoring IS!) runs before declaring when playing against such a fast scoring side a: j Weraroa. .<\ point to remember is that the Weraroa players must have appreciated the Levin players sporting action in remaining on the held for over an hour, in rain, so as to give Weraroa a chance to pass Levin's total. I would like to sec the local Cricket Association adopt some system of limited batting time for each team. Then we would see bright cricket, more satisfied spectators and no draws.— Yours, etc., WERAROA. 7/2/:s6.
