PARIS TALKS.

GERMAN FEARS of ENCIRCLEMENT.

BRITAIN’S FRIENDSHIP WANTED BY GERMANY.

<(By Telegraph-Press Assn.—Copyright) (Received This Day, 9 a.ra.) BERLIN, February 5.

'Germany is closely following the Paris discussions and does not conceal the belief that whatever is done without her is done against her. The old fears of the encirclement of Germany are being revived and the “Wilhelmstrasse” is especially apprehensive regarding the development of British, French and Russian relations as Hitler's policy has long been to obtain Britain’s friendship or at least neutrality in order to secure a free hand to deal with Prance and expand in southern and eastern Europe 1 . The “Frankfurter Zeitung” in an inspired article declares that England is for us the door into the world, but unfortunately French and British differ enees have not brought Germany closer to Britain, partly owing to certain aspects of Naziism and partly the fear of future German actions. That ■ distrust must be removed. The article, however, goes on to insist on treaty revision, especially in respect to the •Colonies, as Germany will never be satisfied with access to other peoples jaw materials.

ITALIAN RE-ACTION. (Received This Day. 9 a.m.) ROME* February 5. Italian re-action to Paris talks is the fear lest Central European settlements are reached without her participation. OIL SANCTIONS LIKELY. (Received This Day, 9,55 a.m.) GENEVA, February 5. Authoritative quarters consider there is every likelihood of oil sanctions at an early date. The Statistics Committee who are at present considering the figures, indicate t|hat Italy has only eight months’ supply, excluding exception all war requirements.
