FIRE AT SHANNON.
EARLY MORNING BLAZE, An outbreak of tire occurred in Shannon early this morning when the store occupied by Air. 11. M*. Meads on Plimmer Terrace was partly destroyed. The alarm was given at 2.45 am., and the volunteer tiro brigade were quickly on the scene to liml the whole of the interior of the building a mass of flames The brigade members however, worked well and confined the blaze to the building, and had it not been for their efforts considerably more damage would have resulted.
Extensively damaged by smoke, lire, and water the whole of Mr. Meads’ stock must be written off .as a total loss. In this respect Mr. Mead is particularly unfortunate, as his store room was extensively damaged in the course of Sunday’s gale.
Mention must be made of the effort of Mr. T. Sunley, of the Power Board staff, who, although he, has bad no
•deep for the last three nights, ws; quickly on the scene and cut off the power service.
The building, which is part of the estate of the late Mrs. Macpherson is understood to be insured in the Standard office, although details are as yet k unavailable.
