Mr. Fred Street, who hud (lie misfortune to have a crowbar pierce his body at the crushing plant on Monday morning, is reported to lie doing- well.

The new headmaster, to (ill the vacancy at th c Otaki State School, caused by the transfer of Mr. S. ,T. Bishop, will probably commence his duties on the Ist April.

Mis. Kiipa Hawea received a severe injury during the gale on Sunday owing to a branch falling and striking her on the head. She was rendered unconscious and received a nasty cut near the ear.

The Hon. Peter Fraser, Minister of Education, will arrive in Otaki at an early date when he will visit the State School, attention having been directed at the overcrowding, and a suggestion made that an additional class-room be erected.

During the month of January rain fell locally on eight days, a total of inches being recorded. The maximum fall was 1.18 inches, on the 17th. The hottest day was the 14th, with a temperature of 70 degrees and the coldest day the ISth with o 9 degrees.

On Saturday night a resident of Kirk Street lost all her washing that she had in soak for the Monday, entrance being gained by prising a window. Only a short time previous to this her safe was rifled and all contents, including a ham, taken.
