OUR HOSPITALS.

(To the Editor)

Sir, —Xow that real reforms are not only in the air, but being carried out by a humane and energetic Government may we be permitted to refer to matters regarding our hospitals that have long needed attention. If we point out cases in our public hospitals where our unfortunate sick are neglected (which they cannot fail to be under the present system) we are told that the nurses are over worked, which is indeed lamentably true. Why are they overworked Because' the institution is understaffed. Why should this ho with scores of girls clamouring for nurses' billets? And why are examinations made ridiculously stiff with the intention of shutting out as many as possible? Under the former Government'we were told that there was no money. Xow we are told that there is | no scarcity, so we hope better things. —Yours, etc., SPECTATOR.
