One of the most conspicuous figures in New Zealand political life before the war, Mr. F. M. B. Fisher, returned to Auckland by the Rangitata last week after an absence of 21 years. Mr. Fisher had a short but brilliant career in the House of Representatives from 1905 to 1914 and for part of that time was Minister of Customs and Marine in the Reform Government. Ho ulsi won special distinction in lawn tennis, holding the New' Zealand championship on several occasions, and in 191.", while still a Minister of the Crown, captained the New Zealand team against Great Britain.

In maritime circles in New Zealand no name was held in higher honour than that of Captain Peter Andreas Petersen, for many years a resident of Napier and later of Wellington, who died in Wellington yesterday morning. Mr. Petersen was well known on the east coast as a master of vessels belonging to Richardson and Co., Ltd., from 1878 until 1910.
