FIELD DAY.

'The committee of the local club have every reason to be proud of their efforts of Sunday afternoon last, when they promoted a novel event in the form of a field day for all the district clubs who competed in the Hamilton Cup series that have just been finalised.

A splendid day was enjoyed, from both a weather and playing' viewpoint, foT a more perfect day has not been enjoyed by p'layqrs for some considerable time, while keen greens and fast fairways were ideal for good scoring. Members of the Foxton Clulb were unable to be present, owing to a previously arranged fixture, but Otaki and Shannon players were conspicuous by •their large numjbers and helped in no inniall manner to make the day an outstanding success. A full day's programme was arranged and was carried out to schedule with - both promptitude and efficiency by the local club officials, ably led by the secretary, (Mr H. A. Phillips, whose untiring efforts are worthy of recomnicndaticn.. Promptly at 9-10 a m. the first pair of players left the club-house for the start of an 18 holes medal round, being followed at regular intervals by 33 other players. An hour for the luncheon adjournment was then taken, and at 1.15 p.m. a start was made with the foursomes competition, in which 42 players participated. At the conclusion of this event, afternoon tea was then partaken of, being followed by speeches by various officials of■the clubs, together with a fur- | ther speech by iMr G. D'. Hamilton, who also presented the Hamilton Cup to Mr 11. Bull, captain of the winning side, Levin, for the 1935 season. The day was such an outstanding success in every way, that it is hoped to make an annual fixture of a similar such event for future year's play at, or near, the conclusion of each winter's play. The winner of the morning medal round was a local player, E. "W. Clark, whe played startling .golf to cover the course in 75 strokes, and with his handicap deducted, in 65 net. Two other local players tied for first place with Clark, but lost on the count back, these being C. ,R. Hosie and P. Mackenzie, who deserved to win also with such fine cards. Playing steady golf, another local pair in R. A. Fredrieksen and T. Tuohy won the afternoon foursomes with a net score of 71, runers-up being C. R. Hosie and T. 11. Benge, with A. Morgan and S. J. Bishop, whose scores read 85—12—73. Following .are the total scores of all competitors who competed in the day's play:—
