(From "Shannon News"). Dairy Co. Pay-Out. At a meeting of Directors of the Shannon Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd., held on Tuesday, it was decided to payout lid per lb. for butter-fat supplied during the month of August. Riding on Footpaths. Pedersen, after playing off with Mrs. J. T. Bovis, won the first prize and Mrs. Bovis the second and the bouquet of flowers went to Mrs Caldwell. Mothers' Union. Owing to the very wet afternoon on Tuesday the monthly meeting of the Shannon branch of the Mothers' Union was po'orly attended, so the Rev. 11. S. Kenney decided to postpone his talk until the next meeting which will be on the second Wednesday of October. During the afternoon tea was dispensed by Mesdamcs Cave and Cronquest. Farewell Supper. On Friday members of the local Fire Brigade and First Aid Class entertained Mr. Allan, of the local bank staff, to supper at Roach's tea-rooms. The opportunity was taken to presen to Mr. Allan a shaving outfit in appreciation of the sterling work he had done in acting as their secretary and was accompanied by their very best wishes for his happiness in Blenheim, to which town he had been transferred.

Personal. Miss Mumily, of Ileretnunga, is at present visiting Mrs K. Mitchell of Mangaore. 2 Mr. and Mrs. Telfer leave on Friday on a month's holiday which will be spent in Southland. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, of Lepperton Junction, have been in Shannon looking up old friends. Mi's. R. L. Tippler, who has been Confined to her bed for the past five weeks, is now able to get up for a short while, her friends will be pleased to hear. The many friends of Mr Bob "Veale will regret to learn that he is at present confined to his bed, having met with an accident while at work. Mr. Crofts, of the relieving staff of the N.Z. Railways, will be stationed in Shannon for three months during which time the clerical staff of the local station wall take their annual leave. Mrs. F. Jamieson, Jnr., Ballancc Street, was taken ill suddenly, necessitating her removal to the Palmerston North Hospital when an operation for appendicitis was performed on Wednesday morning. ■The monthly meeting of the above society was held in the Phniket Room on Monday, September Oth, at 2.15 p.m. Mrs C. Easton, President, occupied the chair. Also present: Mesdames Harper, Radford, Semple, CronIquest and Edwards (secretary). The death took place in Palmerston North on Thursday last of Earnest Alfred, dearly beloved husband of Ivy Evelyn Martin, Vance Street, Shannon. Deceased, who was well known in his home town and Foxton, was 4.1 years of age. He had not enjoyed the best of health for some time. Deceased, who was born in Palmerston North, was the second son of the late Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Martin, of Foxton. Besides his wife, ho leaves one son, Ken, to mourn their loss. Messrs E. (t., W.S. and L. C. Martin, of Foxton, are brothers, and Mesdamcs Bay lis (Palmerston North), Bangs (Te Puke) and Bloomfieldi (oxton) sisters. The funeral took place on Saturday morning at the Shannon cemetery, the pall-bearers being Messrs W. S. Martin (Foxton), J. B. Baylis, R, Hambling and A. Dobson (Palmerston North). The service at the graveside was conducted by Adjutant Wallace, Palmerston North.
