(By Telegraph-Press Assn.-Copyright) Received Sunday, 9.20 p.m. LONDON, July 13.
There was a sensational result in the mile at the amateur athletic championships at White City when S. O. Wooderson, of the Blackhcath Harriers, defeated Lovelock (N.Z.) in 4 minutes 17 2-5 seconds. Lovelock’s time was 4.18 2-5. Lovelock was well placed at half-way, out Wooderson at the bell dashed out. Lovelock delayed his sprint until the last bend, but failed to make an impression and was beaten by three yards, greatly disappointing the large crowd.
Sweeney, Empire 100 yards champion, won the 100 yards in 10 l-ssecs. Oscndarp (Holland) was second and Sir (Hungary), the holder, third. Osendarp won the 220 yards in 21 l-ssecs., with Sweeney second. . Findlay won the 120 yards hurdles in 15secs., his fourth consecutive victory —a feat not achieved in - forty years. A heat wave caused havoc among the 41 runners in the marathon from Windsor to White City. The number dwindled to less than a dozen in the last stages and the leaders walked at intervals over the last three miles. A. J. Norris (Polytechnic) won, his time being 182 min, *57 4-ssecs. Kyriakides (Cyprus) was second in lS3min. 20secs. Roberts (Salford) won the quartermile in 49secs.
