Maheno's Back Broken
AID OF TUG REFUSED | (By Telegraph-Press Assn.-Copyright) Eeceivecl Friday, 11.15 p.m. BRISBANE, July 12. No attempt was made to-day to salvage the Maheno. The tug Carlock reached the scene this morning, but was later discharged by the Japanese master of the Oonah, who has charge of both vessels.
A later message states that Captain Tanaka, master of the 'Maheno, reported that the Maheno's back was brokou, and there was no hope of saving her. The seas are again rough and it is impossible to estimate the full extent of the damage to the Maheno.
