X-RAY KILLS EVIL SPIRITS.

The X-Ray plant at Bellingen Hospital "cured" an Australian aboriginal woman who was convinced that she was beset by malignant spirits. . There is a native superstition that an enemy can place an evil spell upon a person by taking portion of his or her clothing into the mountains, and leaving it there for the devils after certain incantations.

There had been certain disputes at the North Coast mission station where the woman has been staying, and when she missed portions of her clothing she became convinced that it had been taken away by an enemy for the evil spirits to work upon.

BECAME ILL.

IShe soon became really ill, and was. told by her own people to visit a ♦powerful medicine man in the district, who would be able to counteract the •evil influence. A white man,, however, persuaded (her to seek medical advice at Bellingen Hospital, and there she was igiven an X-ray as part of a preconceived plan. The doctor assured her that had evil spirits been at work upon her the X-ray would have revealed the fact.

But of evil spirits, he told her, the jnagie machine had found no trace. In a few days she had recovered her nor•maJ health.
