Mr W. T- Moulin, o'f the Nurseries, Weraroa, lias returned Lome after :i holiday in Wellington,

At its meeting this week a member of the council of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society, Mr R H. Nimino, tendered his resignation to the council. In accepting the resignation the council expressed its regret and recorded its appreciation of Mr Ninuno's services. Mr PL H. Morris, of Wellington, was appointed in Mr Nimmo's place.

The Government has decided- to send a young officer to England for the purpose of obtaining up-to-date instruction and experience in • Army signalling, ~ which is an important branch of military training. The officer selected is Lieutenant G. H. Heal, and he is duo to sail from Auckland by the Eotorua on July ].'{ accompanied by his wife and infant child. He will be absent for a period of about two years and three months, during the greater part of; , <. which time he will be attached to the. Army School of Signals at Catterick, England.

The death occurred on Monday morning of Mr. M. R. Wallace, an old resident of Wellington at the age of 87. Bom in Ireland, Mr. Wallace spent the greater part of his life at sea and eventually settled in Wellington. Ho was the father of Mr. W.'J. Wallace, who is at present in Australia as joint manager of the Maori Rugby football (team, and. at a meeting of the management committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union, of which Mr. W. J. Wallace is a member, a vote of condolence was passed with him and the family in their loss.—Press Association.

G. and Mrs. Slado in the death of their infant daughter, Elaine Mary, found eloquent expression in the large number of friends who attended the funeral at the Levin cemetery yesterday, while particularly impressive was the number of floral tributes received. Service* were conducted at the Parsonage and at the grave-side by Revs. A. N. Scotter (Palmurston North) and J. R. Nelson (Otaki), while the duties of pall-bearers were carried out by four senior, members of the Methodist Young Men's Bible Class, Messrs K. A. Bowater, F. Baumber, W. Lanlcshear and L. W. K<?ys.

The death has occurred of Mr. John Bradley Shaddock, of Dunedin, at the age of seventy years, states a Press Association message received to-day. The deceased, who was born at Oamnru in 18(i5, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Shaddock. He received his education at Parke School, Kensington, and Dunedin College, and since 1878 was actively engaged in the engineering industry, at the time of his death being senior partner of the firm of H. E. Shaddock, Ltd. Besides having acted as Mayor in the days of the Dunedin Borough Council, tlie late Mr. Shacklock also filled the position of Mayor to the City Council during the years 1914-15, and for 18 years was chairman of the Power and Lighting Commission. During late years he again served upon the City Council.
