BRITISH GOLF TITLE GOES TO AMERICA
Little Again Wins In Great Struggle
60,000 WITNESS MATCH
(By Telegraph-Press Assn.--(Copyright) Received Sunday, 9.50 p.m. LONDON", May 26. In the British amateur golf championship final Little (U.S.A.) defeated Tweddell (Eng.) one up. Sixty thousand watched the best golf final in years. It was notable for Tweddell 's marvellous recovery. -Little was 3 up at the end of the morning round, taking 73, the best round of the championship. Tweddell sensationally won the first two holes in the afternoon and thereafter there was a terrific struggle. Little regained a lead of three but the Englishman squared the match at the twelfth with a perfect three. Tweddell then lost chances of going ahead, putting poorly. He was 2 down with three to play. Nevertheless he halved the sixteenth and won the seventeenth amid tremendous excitement.
After playing a bunker shot to the edge of the hole Tweddell halved the last, but this gave Little the victory. Little equalled Hilton's record successive wins in 1900 and 1901.
The stewards had great difficulty throughout the match in controlling the big crowd.
