FOXTON ROAD STILL BLOCKED

♦— —— ■ FLOOD NOW RECEDING. Flood waters still constitute an obstacle on the Levin-Foxton highway beyond the Wirokino bridge, although the waters, which were last evening four feet at the deepest point are now receding. A man on horseback was, however, unable to negotiate the flooded stretch yesterday afternoon. The road was found to be covered with willows and drift-wood, and will be impassable to motor-vehicles until this is removed. The flood waters at Rangiotu are now rapidly subsiding and it was expected that the road would be clear today. Mr. and Mrs. Gr. Lamont had to leave their home on Thursday night, there being several inches of water in their house. Other settlers were isolated for several days but the water, although completely surrounding the dwellings, did not enter them. A break j in the bank of the main drain caused Revere flooding in the low-lying land in the vicinity of the Barber estate, Messrs Puklowski and Croad being the worst sufferers. The Oroua river recorded Tift 10in on the gauge at the bridge at Rangiotu and overflowed its banks at several places.
