ALL INDIA HOCKEY TEAM.
MATCH AT PALMERSTON NORTH. Still further amazing come to hand of the amazing exploits of this wonderful All India hockey team. Their world wide reputation is being enhanced by the ease of their wins and by the spectacular and thrilling style of hockey that they play. Writing to the President of the Manawatu Hockey Association, Mr Norman Jacobsen, who has been, travelling with the Indian team, says, “On the occasion of the earlier matches of the tour everyone was amazed at the skill of the Indians. Reporters came and sat next to me to get some help m writing the games but I found the task beyond me to do adequately. Of course I could describe it in terms of our own game, but new vocabulary was required and an insight into all their moves, and their strokes, and their plan of attack. It has taken me a whole week of discussion with every member of the team and it -was only after identifying myself with every member of the team, that I can safely say that I can adequately express myself. To make the above statement more clear I must say that as I have travelled through India and having captained one of the crack teams there, the members of the touring team accepted me as one of themselves and we have shared everything. Can you wonder that if I have been up to the present unable to find words capable of describing the play of this team that the teams that have played them seemed to come under the “magic spell” and that the spectators have been dumbfounded at the wizardry'! When a man of this standing writes this way about the All India team, the public can look forward to something next Wednesday. The above writer also says “The magnetic personality of Dhyan Chand must be seen to be believed.” The match is advertised in this issue.
