Precept. Be not rash Avith thy mouth. Eccles. 5,2. Promise. I will be Avith thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say. Ex. 4, 12. Prayer. Let the Avords of my mouth ... be acceptable in Thy sight. Psalm 19, 4. ’ DEEDS BETTER THAN WORDS. Section 20.—MattheAv 7, 21-23. 31. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but ho that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22. Many will .say to mo in this day, Lord, Lord, have Ave not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils and in thy name done many Avonderful works? 23. And then'will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. THE ANCHORED WILL. As on the surface of the sea The little ripples run, And all the foamy, tAvinkling Avaves Are glinting in the sun, So on the surface of my life Drifts many a shifting thought, And moods and Avishes and desires In changing current caught. ,<As ships in harbour sAving and SAvay With every turning tide, Yet in the bedded rocks below The' holding anchor bide., So, though my purpose seems to veer, Unstable as the sea, And strain against the Hand that holds And struggle to be free, Yet in my being’s ocean depths The restless Avaves are still, And there my Avill is anchored fast To God’s unchanging Avill. COMPLETE IN CHRIST. Our life in Him can never be forfeited. Our righteousness in Him can never be tarnished. Our acceptance in Him can never be questioned. Our peace in Him is settled forever. Our justification in Him can never be cancelled. ONLY ONE TO SPEND. I saAV a tiny little boy in a candy store. He Avandered from case to case Avith the utmost gravity, studying each asortment Avith deep seriousness. His mofher, tired of Avaiting, called to him, “Hurry up, son, spend your money. We must be going.” To this he replied) “But, mamma, I’ve only one penny to spend and I’ve got to spend it carefully.” That little lad had learned a great lesson of life. If he had had a pocket full of pennies he could have afforded to be careless in the spending of one. But he had only one. That made the problem serious. I Avonder if he Avill spend his life as carefully. If I had ten lives to invest I could afford to spend one of them perhaps, in mer'iy having a good time, or in only making money. But I have only one. I must make it count for the mo'st. I cannot afford to invest my one life in every passing Avhim and fancy. I must learn to see the difference betAveen the good and the necessary. My time, my energy, my strength and my talents are too sacred to be throAvn carelesly about. I have but one life to invest. I must consider it carefully. SALVATION. Salvation includes two things —Avhat Ave are saved from, and Avhat we are sa\ r ed to'. We are saved from the Avrath of God; from this present evil age; from our evil selves; from sin and all its results and poAver; from everlasting burning. We are saved to God; to glory; to-Heaven; to’ fullness of joy; to pleasures for evermore; to a new and glorious creation. In Salvation, the love of God, the holiness of God, the righteousness of God, the mercy of Go’d, and the power of God are all displayed to the full. In Salvation the Name of God is revealed —‘Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The will and love of the Father, the death and Avork of the Son, the quickening power and presence of the Hoiy Spirit are all united in Salvation. Reader, have you passed from death unto life Are you saved? Or are you still neglecting so great Salvation? “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved,” “He that believeth not . • . the Avrath of God abideth on him.”
