Secession Petition Disallowed
WESTERN AUSTRALIA FAILS TO CONVINCE
(By Telegraph-Press Assn.-Copyright) Received Saturday, 12.20 a.m. LONDON, May 24. Western Australia’s secession petition has been disallowed. The Joint Committee’s report stated
that it would not be a proper one to be received by Parliament as the prayer asks for Legislative action which, in the Committee’s opinion, it was constitutioally incompetent for the United Kingdom Parliament to take except u(km a definite request from the Commonwealth conveying clearly the expressed wish of the Australian people as a. whole.
Further, the petition was presented "by the Government of West Australia which, as a State, was not concerned
with the subject matter of the proposed legislation.
