Shipbuilding Revival at Home
IMPROVEMENT ON YEAR AGO i By Telegraph-Press Assn.-Copyright). (British Official Wireless.) Received Friday, 7 p.m. RUGBY, April 17Lloyd’s Register shows that, on March 31, 11(5 merchant vessels, of 555,815 tons gross, were under construction in Britain and Ireland. The total is 41,000 tons less than usual, but 74,000 tons greater than a year ago. During the March quarter work was begun on 144,000 tons, an increase of 51,000 tons on the corresponding total for the previous three months. On March 31 there was throughout the world 1,2(59,000 tons under construction, of which total 43.8 per cent, was being built in Britain and Ireland.
