Canon Hannay, otherwise known as George Birmingham, the novelist, preaching at Kensington Gore, compared the translation of the Bible with the dedication to King James written by the very same men. He said: “It contains every possible fault in English prose, except the split infinitive, and I can only suppose that while translating, they were possessed by some power which might be called inspira-. tion.' ’
