MONDAY

Mr and Mrs E. J. Nash, who have ibeen on a visit to Wairoa, wore among /the 1 week-end visitors, to Otaki.

On account of the serious illness of her sister, Mrs. ,Galbraith, of Auckland, Ylis. M. Williams will leave for the north to-morrow.

The engagement is announced of Miss Gladys Lousia, eldest daughter of Mr. and Airs. C. V. Pike, of Otaki, to Air. Louis Raymond Coles, of Paekakariki (late of Otaki).

In the cycle road race on Saturday, Otaki to Paraparaumu and back, Bert Coulter proved the winner, Wchipeihana second, Allies third. T. George secured .fastest time.

Between forty and fifty Inkers visited Alanakau on Saturday and after a pleasant outing journeyed to Otaki, thence by train to Wellington. Alb appeared- to thoroughly .enjoy themselves.

The social held at the Otaki Railway theatre on. Saturday night 'was. ns enjoyable. ms its predecessors while .the attendance was again large. Dancing was indulged in under the able guidance of Mr. Rule, while Sharp’s orchestra was again to the fore with pleasing music. Miss. Henderson (Dannevirke) played an extra. Euchre games were keenly contested, the winners being: Mrs. Douglas and Mr. W. Cootcs (firsts), and Mrs. C, Cooksley and Mr. R, Thompson (seconds). The committee worked well.

The death occurred this morning of Mrs. Huff, wife of Mr. J, Huif, the well-known and popular captain of the Otaki Junior Football .Club. The deceased, who was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kehu Hakaraia, had been in indifferent health for the past throe months, and had been in the Palmerston North hospital. The late Mrs. Huff, who possessed a quiet and unassuming nature, was a prominent hockey player. Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved husband,and the little fonr-tecn-month-old boy, who are left to mourn their loss, also for the bereaved parents and other relatives.
