WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FARMERS’ UNION.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A committee meeting of the W.D.F.U. was held on Tuesday, September 4thp ill the W.D. room, Mrs M. Gorringe -presiding over a large attendance. Apologies were received from Mesdames Goldsmith, Stallard, Sevan, Denton, McLean, I. Bartholomew, and O ’Connor. Votes of sympathy were passed to Mrs L. Griffith in her recent bereavement and to Mrs McLean on account of Mr McLean’s illness.

It was arranged that at the next social afternoon to be held on October 2nd, a Bring and Buy stall should be held .to assist the Community Chest 'Fund, Mesdames G.' Brown and |Colquhoun offering to take charge of this effort. It is also hoped that a speaker from Wellington will address mem-bers-on this occasion.

The attention of members was drawn to the fact that books for the W.D, Book. Club are due to be sent this month and books for this purpose may be left at the W.D. room prior to Tuesday, September 18th, ■ when books will be packed. These books are sent out to back’'block settlers and are greatly appreciated and any donations of books for this purpose will Be gratefully re-, ceived by the local branch. . The secretary was instructed to send heartiest greetings and congratulations to the newly formed Chau branch of the W.D. members, expressing great satisfaction at the formation of another branch in the district. A visitor from the Gore branch of the W.D. was welcomed, this lady entertaining members with two pipe solos, which were greatly appreciated. Afternoon. tea was dispensed 'by Mesdames Davis and TVistleton, who were hostesses' for the afternoon.
