BRITISH FASCISTS.
DEMONSTRATION PLANNED. POLICE PRECAUTIONS. Fifteen thousand regular police are to he mobilised on September 9, when Sir Oswald Mosley’s Black Shirt Fascists will hold a mass demonstration ■in Hyde Park, London. Scotland Yard will also use for the first time at any public meeting its new autogyro fitted with two-way wireless, so that crowd movements can ibe carefully watched. Many special constables possibly will be paraded to fulfil the routine duties of the regular police, who are fully prepared to deal with anticipated acts of mob violence. Meanwhile, the National Joint Council of the Labour Party and Trades Union Congress has denounced the proposal to hold a working-class counterdemonstration, because it is felt that it would only lead to grave clashes. In a letter addressed to all affiliated organisations, the council states: “It is clear that what is aimed at is a repetition on a wider scale of the tactics pursued by the Communist Party in connection with the Olympia demonstration, when organised opposition to a meeting was_ fomented, the effect of wltielx was to give the British Union of Fascists an excuse to display violence that has called for universal denunciation. Any association with a counter demonstration on the part of bodies attached to organised labour would merely be playing the game of those who desire to see a restriction, ’if not abolition, of the rights of public meeting and freedom of speech.” It is believed that if the Fascist demonstration provokes riots, the Government will prohibit all political uniforms, and apply the strictest control to all future public meetings.
