WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

> KIMBERLEY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Kimberley Women’s Institute was held .on Thursday, December 7th. Mrs R. Evans presiding. . After the ordinary business had been dealt with, Mrs H. Mungavin gave an interesting and seasonable demonstration on cake icing, which was greatly appreciated by members. A paper on Culture of Roses, written by an expert, was read by Miss Blackburn. This contained val- * uable information, especially for the ■Garden Circle. . r A vote. of. .thanks was extended to both these ladies. Two competitions were held, resulting as follows;—Bert handbag: Mrs R. Stratton 1, Mrs Gore 2. Mrs L. Griffiths 3; junior, Miss Davies 1, Miss Mellor 2. Best pot of marmalade: Mrs uGore 1, Mrs R.‘ Evans 2, Mrs Bryant 3; junior, Missl L. Blackburn 1, Miss Mel- • lor 2. Miss Cody was thanked for judging the marmalade. sThe hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdamea (Patou, Denton> Eagle, Gore and Spencer, to whom a vote of thanks was extended for a very dainty afternoon tea.

CHRISTMAS PARTY. A very pleasing function took place on Friday afternoon, in the form of the Institute's first Christmas party, «,t whieb *items were presented as follows: —Pianoforte solo, Colin Weaver; Lyndon Griffiths and Keith McLeanj'and a playette introducing the Christmas fairy (Melva Death), Christmas rabbit (Kathleen McLean) and two small children (Evelyn and Fred Biyant)j and which gave much delightment. - *

The-blare of-,the trumpet announced the arrival of Father Christmas by car. He wau received by the President and introduced to the* children individually, eaehr' of whom later received from him a delightful gift and a bag of sweets from the heavily ladsn Christmas Tree. A sumptuous sit-down tea was given to the children, while parents enjoyed e cup of tea as usual, which is a standUg order of the Women's Institute. * The cake won .by Mr Hughes on (Wednesday at the Sunday School party, and generously handed ‘back by him, wras again competed for at the party,-And was won by Mrs E. T. Stratton.

• An drive for the Otaki Children's Health Camp, resulted in over ten donen eggs being collected. These will be taken down to Otaki and handed to the matron on Christmas mornIng py Mr Dorn, who has kindly of-: , Apologies were received from a number of members who were unable to Attend.

A vote of sympathy, with hopes of a speedy recovery,* was extended to Mrs Mellor, one of the vice-presidents. After the compliments of the season bad been exchanged between the President; and members, the singling of the National Anthem brought a happy afternoon to a close;
