The death, has occurred in the Koth•erham Hospital, Christchurch, following an. illness, of Mrs Alf. Brustad, formerly Miss Aroha Clifford. Prior "to her marriage Mrs Brustad was .1 /flying enthusiast and was well known in aviation eircles. Mrs Brustad was ::25-years of age. Her death followed "the-r*irth of a son two days ago. She New Zealand's first woman pilot. Her husband was a former guide at Mo«nt Cook. •»"i%s Polly Larkins, who won the .prize for the best essay on an incident in New Zealand's early history, offered by the Wellington Confidence Carnival Committee, is the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Larking, of Rangiotu. Her father, (besides being a musician, ie the chief of the Eangitano trfbe. The monument in the Square at DPlalmerston North was erected to the memory of his grand-uncle, Peeti Te Awe Awe, so it can ;be itie I/arkins family is closely connected with the early history of-the Manawatu, fitting^ that the recipient of tfie, prize should be a. member of that-fabailyj.
